Do you remember the first time you saw a rendition of Annie? Maybe it was the original cartoons from the 1800s or perhaps the book series?
If you thought that experience was unforgettable, you are surely in for a special treat with this Tony Award-winning production running at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts through October 19th.
Almost everyone has been exposed to the adorable redheaded orphan who finds herself in a new world of wealth and whimsical character at one point or another. But this cast performing at the Broward Center is unlike any I’ve seen, and the set is amazing! Bravo to the designers!
Lynn Andrews gives Carol Burnett a run for her money playing the wicked Miss Hannigan while Issie Swickle shines through as Annie. Even better for the South Florida crowd, this little Fort Lauderdale native got to debut her national tour in her hometown.
You will fall in love with Molly, one of the orphans that is not only absolutely adorable, but humorous and witty. Annie is the star of the show, and rightfully so. She is an absolute natural on stage; but this little one has a few lines that will surely give you a chuckle.
I have seen Annie on Broadway twice before this show and this production, by far, was the best. My mother and I attended the show together and she enjoyed it even more.
It is easy to see the chemistry between the performers and the care they have for each other, especially the adults with the children. It is very apparent that they are all enjoying every minute on stage, and that is key to a successful performance.
I promise that you will be whistling Tomorrow or NYC or one of the other many catchy tunes as you are leaving the theater. It is the perfect event for a family of any age, and a great girls night out like Mom and I.
You will smile, you will laugh and you will tell everyone about the amazing time you had with Annie.
Don’t forget to check out what’s next from Broadway Across America and the Broward Center!
